‘Some landscapes quietly become part of your inner world.’

This scene is a place my wife and I have returned to countless times in the evenings whilst meandering through Minterne. The tree standing alone within this wheat field has become deeply familiar to us over the years, quietly witnessing long conversations, laughter, sunsets, silence, and nights spent staring upward at the stars.

I painted this piece using watercolour and fountain ink, allowing the washes and loose linework to remain instinctive and open. I wanted the composition to feel spacious and full of air, reflecting the emotional calm and quiet joy this place brings whenever we return to it.

What drew me most was the presence of the tree itself. There is something grounding about it standing alone within the landscape, surrounded by changing light and open sky. It has become connected to many sacred memories for us, and I wanted the painting to hold some small trace of that feeling.
