There’s a quiet majesty in Cerne Abbas that always draws me in, and nowhere is it felt more deeply than standing before St. Mary’s. I wanted to paint the church not as a static monument, but as a living presence — the way its honeyed stone catches the changing light, glowing like a memory that refuses to fade. The contrast of gold against the gathering storm felt like a perfect reflection of faith itself — luminous, enduring, and human.

As I painted, I thought of the countless lives that have passed through those doors — generations of whispers, vows, grief, and song. I tried to let the sky carry that emotion; soft pinks and greys mingling like breath and silence. The ink and water intertwined just as history and the present do here — fluid, sacred, and ever-renewing.
