Bridge Street (West), Lyme Regis - Fine Art Print
2025
‘‘Some streets seem to guide you somewhere beyond themselves.’
This piece continues my exploration of Broad Street in Lyme Regis, viewed facing west toward the sea and quay beyond. Much like the earlier work inspired by our first visit to the town, I wanted to preserve the creative energy, atmosphere, and emotional excitement that Lyme Regis immediately seemed to awaken in me.
What particularly drew me to this scene was the movement of the road itself. The way it curves and disappears through the buildings creates a natural sense of journey and discovery, gradually leading the eye toward the coastline beyond. I was also fascinated by the framing of the traffic lights against the surrounding architecture, which felt strangely cinematic within the composition.
Created using dip-pen ink, watercolour, and oil pastel, the process remained highly intuitive and expressive. Rather than focusing on precise architectural detail, I allowed colour, line, and instinctive mark-making to shape the atmosphere of the piece. The layers became a reflection of movement, memory, and creative response rather than simple observation.
