‘Stillness can feel just as overwhelming as chaos.’

This piece became the final work within a series of three large abstract paintings created during an emotionally intense and creatively immersive period. Unlike the earlier works, which were driven by explosive movement and instinctive energy, I approached this painting with far greater restraint and consideration, allowing space, silence, and atmosphere to become central to the process.

Created using acrylic paint and flexible paste on canvas, the work evolved around a feeling of emergence. I became interested in the idea of something rising slowly from darkness or turbulence, whether that be water, memory, emotion, or the self. The central form gradually revealed itself through layered texture and subtle movement, suspended between abstraction and suggestion.

Throughout the process, I found myself reflecting on the calm that sometimes follows emotional intensity. Not necessarily peace in a simple sense, but a quieter, more reflective state where clarity begins to return after periods of pressure, noise, or creative overwhelm. The darker surrounding space became just as important as the painted form itself, creating a feeling of depth, distance, and suspended silence.

Prints are supplied mounted with backing board and protected in a clear sleeve. They are shipped flat in a rigid board-backed mailer.
