Self Portrait in Motion - Fine Art Print
2026
‘Sometimes the act of creating becomes impossible to separate from the act of becoming.’
This piece was created during an intense week of painting in which I found myself fully immersed within process, experimentation, and instinct. It became the second work within a series of three large abstract canvases, each reflecting different emotional and psychological states experienced during that period of creation.
Unlike the previous piece, which explored shared joy and presence, this work gradually developed into something far more personal and introspective. Over time it revealed itself almost as a self-portrait, not in a literal sense, but as a reflection of my emotional and creative state whilst pushing deeper into unfamiliar materials, techniques, and ways of working.
Created using acrylic, oil paint, and oil pastel on canvas, the painting evolved through constant layering, scraping, covering, and rediscovering forms beneath the surface. I became fascinated by the tension between control and surrender, allowing instinct and curiosity to guide the process rather than pursuing a fixed outcome. The surface itself began to mirror that psychological intensity, shifting between chaos, clarity, destruction, and discovery.
