Bridge over The Stour, Stourpaine - Fine Art Print

£45.00 - £75.00

2025

‘‘Some paths become woven into memory through repetition, season, and return.’

This piece was inspired by the bridge crossing over the North Dorset Trailway in Stourpaine, a village that holds deep personal significance for me. My mum lives nearby, and we often walk the old railway path with the dogs toward the River Stour, returning to the same landscapes throughout different times of year and changing evening light.

What drew me most to this scene was the dramatic perspective of the bridge itself. The lines of the path seemed to pull everything forward toward the fading twilight, creating a powerful sense of movement, distance, and atmosphere. The evening light transformed the familiar landscape into something almost cinematic for a brief moment.

Created using watercolour, dip-pen ink, and expressive mixed media mark-making, the piece developed instinctively and emotionally rather than through strict observation. I wanted the perspective lines and layered colour to create a feeling of motion and immersion, almost as though the viewer is being carried through the landscape itself.
